Nefeterius Akeli McPherson
Nefeterius Akeli McPherson was born on July 24, 1974 at 6:17 p.m. in Killeen, Texas, to Ballard Dean McPherson and Katharyn Ann Ross McPherson. She was educated in the Killeen Independent School District attending Sugar Loaf Elementary, Nolan Middle School, and Ellison High School. Nefeterius was class president all four years at Ellison High School and became Ellison High School's Homecoming Queen. She graduated from Ellison High School in May 1992, graduated from SMU (Southern Methodist University) with a bachelor's degree in May 1996, received her master's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in December 2000, and her Juris Doctorate degree from The Dedman School of Law, Southern Methodist University in 2008.
February 2009, Nefeterius moved to Washington, DC and became a political appointee for the Obama Administration. She was the Senior Media Affairs Liaison for the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), Ambassador Ron Kirk. Nefeterius served as the lead USTR spokeswoman on all agriculture, intellectual property and labor issues, as well as issues pertaining to World Trade Organization legal cases, the European Union, Africa and Japan. She was also responsible for securing local, national, and international media interviews for USTR officials that convey the agency's trade messages when appropriate and staffing United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk and other USTR officials during media interviews, press related events as well as domestic and international trips.
Nefeterius received a life-saving liver transplant on November 6, 2011 from 12 year old Taitlyn Hughes. She also represented organ donations in the 2013 Rose Parade. Nefeterius was selected to be among the Nation's Best Advocates' 40 Under 40 Top Lawyers. Her warm personality and infectious smile were contagious. She believed in celebrating life and she lived her life to the fullest. Being a spokesperson for UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) advocating organ donations, Nefeterius enjoyed running, exercising, reading, and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys.
She was inducted into the Nu Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Southern Methodist University in the Fall of 1993. Her line name was Elegance and she was the epitome of finer womanhood. Nefeterius truly embodied the principles of her beloved sorority.
Nefeterius Akeli McPherson died on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 8:40 p.m. Her sister, Dr. Tamara McPherson Pizzoli and her mother, Katharyn Ross McPherson are continuing Nefeterius' legacy through Nef Gallery and Nefeterius Akeli McPherson Foundation. Nefeterius Akeli McPherson Foundation was created July 24, 2015 in memory of Nefeterius. The Foundation is non-profit and all donated funds will be used to help provide medicine for those in need who are transplant patients (both pre and post), plus scholarship funding for students continuing their education beyond high school. Nefeterius was a giver! Tamara and I want to continue her legacy
